Black in STEAM Celebration Honors Seven Individuals
The Division of Diversity and Innovative Community Engagement and the Black Alumni Association Celebration and Awards Ceremony at SLU on Friday, Nov. 8, 2024. The event recognized seven individuals.
Valencia Miller, the Owner of Onyx Dagger Tattoo & Art Gallery, received the the Joshua Johnson Pioneering Black Artist Award. This award was designed to honor someone who demonstrates innovation, creativity, and leadership in the arts, and celebrates those who push boundaries and pave the way for future generations through their transformative contributions.
Meet visual artist Valencia Miller, emerging talent and participant in the 22nd annual Varsity Art exhibition hosted by Art Saint Louis. Varsity Art XXII showcased 42 outstanding undergrad and graduate level art students representing 21 St. Louis regional universities and colleges from Missouri and Illinois. Valencia Miller, or “Miss V” as she’s known to her clients. After spending time learning under Funk and Martin at the oldest tattoo shop in Hawaii, in 2014 Miller moved to St. Louis for school. A year later, she opened up her first shop, Ink Gallery, in Benton Park.
